Fed: Video Ezy denies GST charges

Video Ezy has denied charges it has used the GST as an excuse to raise prices.

The company says its prices are no different from other video hire stores.

Video Ezy today became the first business to be issued with a GST price exploitation
notice by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

The ACCC says the action followed complaints that Video Ezy had cited the GST as the
reason for raising the price of new release rentals from $6 to $7 even though the tax
does not come into effect until July.

However, the company has rejected the charge and defended its pricing.

Managing director ROBERT MAIDMENT, in a statement, says Video Ezy does not engage in
price exploitation and no prices have been increased in anticipation of the GST.
