Oly: Medals galore up for grabs

Australians are in medal contention in a swag of Olympic sports in Beijing today ...

including sailing, basketball, hockey, water polo, equestrian and walking.

Tornado pair GLENN ASHBY and DARREN BUNDOCK will be aiming for a third Australian title
in the formula one class of Olympic sailing.

BUNDOCK ... a Sydney 2000 silver medallist ... and ASHBY are lying three points behind
leaders SPAIN with one race of the 11-race series remaining.

Australians are involved in a number of team sports approaching the business end of the Games.

The women's basketballers ... despite injuries to PENNY TAYLOR and LAUREN JACKSON ...

have a semifinal showdown with CHINA.

The men's hockey team will have to overcome a form slump and the loss of injured striker
GRANT SCHUBERT in a semifinal against Spain.

The women's water polo team hopes to lift for one last effort in the bronze medal playoff
against 2005 world champions HUNGARY.

KY HURST tackles the men's 10 kilometre open water swim.

Walker JANE SAVILLE will hope to add to the bronze medal she won at Athens in 2004
in the 20 kilometre event.

Show jumper EDWINA ALEXANDER has outside medal hopes as she attempts to become the
first Australian to win an Olympic medal in the event in Hong Kong.

BMX cyclist JARED GRAVES ... who won two of three quarter-final heats ... has the pick
of the start gate positions in his semi-final .. where he is up against teammate KAMIKAZE.

Kayakers CHANTAL MEEK and KEN WALLACE race in semis of the women's and men's K1 500
metres, with five-time Olympian CLINT ROBINSON in a K2 500 metres semifinal with partner
JACOB CLEAR.
