Mexico: Less profits for Telmex from Jan - Sept 2004.

Telmex telecom major announced net profits of Pesos$16,771mil over Jan - Sep 2004 a figure 3,8% less than 2003 as the result had an impact of Pesos$1,677mil financial expenses. From Jan - September 2004 Telmex has invested US$922mil, of which US$55mil in South America, while its debt rose from US$6.81bil to US$7.75bil. Overall sales Jan- Sept were Pesos$96,287mil (7,5% up than Pesos$89,573mil on 2003), operating profits were Pesos$30,755mil (up 2,2% from Pesos$30,089mil). The company has cleared that quarterly reports would include from September onwards the results of the companies Metrored, Telmex Corp (Chilesat), and Embratel, as well as results by country. As of September 2004 Telmex had 16.81mil lines in Mexico, 9,5% up than 2003, and the local traffic was up 1,3%. Connections to the Internet rose 16,9% to 1.6mil, of which 456,000 using ADSL technology.
